July 30th Finals Night Spotlights

Coral Sussex Cup Final

Trap 1 – Warzone Tom – Trainer – Elizabeth McNair – Owner(s) – K.S.S. Syndicate

43 Races / 22 Wins

The first of two finalists for Central Park trainer Elizabeth McNair. The ultra-consistent sort has an incredible strike rate of 51.16%. He has graced the finals of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers at Monmore and the Premier Greyhound Golden Jacket at Crayford. Late last year he won his first category one competition when taking the Ladbrokes Gold Collar at Crayford unbeaten. He has reached his second Premier Greyhound final unbeaten, showing both early pace and staying ability.

Trap 2 – Ninja Kerry – Trainer – Belinda Green – Owner(s) – Mr A K Ballard & Mr B K Sadler

10 Races / 2 Wins

Locally trained by Belinda Green, the early paced sort showed his potential when reaching the third round of the English Greyhound Derby in only his fourth race on these shores. Since then, he has won two from five at Hove all over C&D. He is the lightest raced of the six finalists and will be looking to win his first race of the competition when it matters most.

p

Trap 3 – Chelms Switch – Trainer – John Mullins – Owner(s) – Mr L M Harris, Mr C J Waters & Mr J R Watson

32 Races / 6 Wins

Trained by Towcester’s John Mullins he has had all his races in open affairs. On Derby final night he showed his class when winning the Derby Plate over 500 metres in front of his home crowd. When taking the spoils that night he returned an SP of 14/1. Last Saturday in his semi-final he almost sprung another surprise at 18/1 when getting beat on the line by an inspired Warzone Tom. Another big run and win is not out of the question.

p

Trap 4 – Bridies Pet – Trainer – Richard Rees – Owner(s) – Mr A C Dunnage & Mrs C A Dunnage

17 Races / 5 Wins

The second of two locally trained charges to line up in the final. He showed his potential when running over 515 metres for the first time last month. In his trial stake before the start of the competition the wide seed won his first ever open race at the second time of asking. For the first round he came in as a reserve and has taken his chance to finish second both times to secure a final spot. He has taken to 515 metres and there could be more to come.

p

Trap 5 – Havana Bale Out – Trainer – Elizabeth McNair – Owner(s) – K.S.S. Syndicate

15 Races / 6 Wins

The second of the two Elizabeth McNair finalists. The former ARC Northern Puppy Derby finalist at Newcastle had her first two races at Hove after coming out of season and won them both to reach the final unbeaten along with kennelmate Warzone Tom. She is the youngest in the race and showed she has a very bright future when clocking the fastest time of the semi-finals in an impressive, calculated time of 29.60. She is favourite with the sponsors to take the final.

p

Trap 6 – Doghouse Dazzler – Trainer – The Doghouse Boys – Owner(s) – The Doghouse Boys

48 Races / 11 Wins

Trained by Nathan Hunt the Romford raider has done his best running over six bends at Romford and Crayford. At the latter he reached the final of the Peter Bussey Memorial trophy over 540 metres earlier this year. At Hove over 515 he has shown can he mix it with the big guns by winning twice from four starts recently, including his semi-final by 2 ¾ lengths. Both those wins came in the black and white jacket which he once again dons in the final.

Premier Greyhound Racing Regency Final

Trap 1 – Baggios Champ – Trainer – Frank Bryce – Owner(s) – Mr D Bryce & Mr F Bryce

27 Races / 8 Wins

The 2021 Produce Stakes finalist at Swindon had two races at Hove before the penny dropped. In his third race at the south coast track the November ’19 won his semi final by 7 ½ lengths in a very good time of 41.48 seconds. His times at Hove have improved with every race and if that continues with his favourable draw in trap one, he is very much a contender.

Trap 2 – Bombardier – Trainer – Mark Wallis – Owner(s) – Mrs A J Jeal

30 Races / 17 Wins

His win percentage of 56.66% says a lot about the Mark Wallis trained charge. He reached the finals of the St Leger at Crayford and Coral Champion Stakes at Romford and will be looking to make it third time lucky in category one finals. His draw in trap two could prove vital if he is to make it a five timer in this event for trainer Wallis.

Trap 3 – Russian Sammy – Trainer – David Elcock – Owner(s) – Mr D J Elcock

34 Races / 7 Wins

He has been ever present on the open scene since his arrival on these shores late last year. The September ’19 whelp now contests his first ever category one final after two second placed finishes. His best time over C&D came in his semi-final and connections will hope that improvement continues if he is to cause an upset.

Trap 4 – Chelms Cub – Trainer – Jason Heath – Owner(s) – Mr S J Eason & Mr M J Hughes

21 Races / 3 Wins

The only locally trained runner in the final. Since being entered in the showpiece competition by trainer Jason Heath he has taken off. He is the only unbeaten finalist after two superb runs. He has shown he can win from the front and come from behind. His semi-final victory over Bombardier came from trap five so has shown he can do it away from the rails.

Trap 5 – Troy Suzieeq – Trainer – David Mullins – Owner(s) – Mr M K Gollogly

46 Races / 9 Wins

The only bitch and the oldest in the race. Since returning from a lay-off in July she is looking like her old self who reached the final of the Bookmakers Hunt Cup at Towcester over 712 metres. In her semi-final she upset favourite backers to hold on from a late surge from Callmesteve to take the spoils by a head at an SP return of 22/1. She has a tricky draw to overcome but has shown she can do it.

Trap 6 – Callmesteve – Trainer – John Mullins – Owner(s) – Mr A K Ballard & Mr B K Sadler

27 Races / 12 Wins

Ultra consistent on the open scene with final appearances in the English Greyhound Puppy Derby, the Winter Derby final, George St Ing St leger. He won the category two Challenge Cup at Towcester over 712 metres last month. He has reached yet another final after overcoming two tricky draws to finish second both times. The ante post favourite has yet another difficult draw to contend with but rule him out at your peril.

Coral Sussex Cup Sprint Trophy Final

Trap 1 – Bambis Magic – Trainer – Richard Rees – Owner(s) – Rees Racing

3 Races / 1 Win

The first of two finalists for Hove trainer Richard Rees. He is the lightest raced in the final with only three to his name. After two failed attempts in D1 graded company he saved his best performance for the heats when winning by 1 ½ lengths in a calculated time of 16.37. That win came from the one box and he has that again and that could be decisive in holding off Havana Class.

Trap 2 – Havana Class – Trainer – Elizabeth McNair – Owner(s) – K.S.S. Syndicate

47 Races / 23 Wins

The Liz McNair trained star has done the business over two and four bends. Over four he has won the Laurels at Perry Barr and reached the Coral Golden Sprint final at Romford. Over two bends he has reached the finals of the Sovereign Stakes, Northamptonshire Sprint, Arc Salver and won the Watling Street Sprint Trophy at Towcester. He clocked the fastest time of 16.30 in the heats and is the one to beat.

Trap 3 – Carter Bar – Trainer – Derek Knight – Owner(s) – Mrs D Williams

50 Races / 16 Wins

The oldest and most experienced in the final is one of four locally trained finalists. The early paced July ’18 whelp has wins under his belt over both two and four bends. He goes into the final in fine fettle after winning a category three competition at Romford over 400 metres and winning his first round heat. He needs to utilize his early to overcome a tricky draw in trap three.

Trap 4 – Valentino – Trainer – David Puddy – Owner(s) – Mr D Puddy & Mr P Walton

32 Races / 9 Wins

In his first ever race at Hove, the Central Park raider qualified for the final after finishing 2 ½ lengths behind Carter Bar. Trainer and connections will be hoping for continued improvement after that run and with being the only middle seed could take advantage of any inside scrimmaging.

Trap 5 – Newinn Tik Tok – Trainer – Patrick Browne – Owner(s) – Mr S D Talbot

26 Races / 5 Wins

The Hove raider has predominately done his best running away from the south coast track. He has reached the finals of the Coral Puppy Cup and Coral Golden Sprint, both over 400 metres at Romford and the Scurry Gold Cup at Perry Barr. He is yet to win at Hove in five attempts but has shown he has the ability.

Trap 6 – Lenson On Ice – Trainer – Richard Rees – Owner(s) – Mr L P Ponder & Mr A K Whelan

5 Races / 2 Wins

The second of the Richard Rees runners. The relatively new addition to the kennels has hit the ground running with two wins and three second placed finishes from five races all at Hove. He was picked up by Havana Class at the half way point last week but with another good start and a favourable draw may be harder to peg back this time.

Coral Bitch Dual Distance Trophy Final

Trap 1 – Moments Of Magic – Trainer – Kevin Hutton – Owner(s) – Westwell Racing Club

20 Races / 6 Wins

The winner of the BGBF Puppy Cup and BGBF British Bred Champion Stakes at Towcester over 470 and 500 metres will be looking to add to her titles. From her first trial to race she found twenty seven spots. Continued improvement will be expected by the Towcester raider. She has trap one again and with a vacant trap two may be able to reverse her defeat to Whats Up Eva from the first round.

Trap 2 –

Vacant Trap

Trap 3 – Droopys Delia – Trainer – Danny Brock – Owner(s) – Mr G E Watson

7 Races / 2 Wins

The August ’20 whelp is the youngest in the race with only seven races to her name. She has already won at Romford and Harlow over 400 and 415 metres on her travels. In her first race at Hove, she finished second by 2 ¾ lengths behind Old Fort Chicago to qualify. She clearly has early pace to win at tracks like Romford and Harlow and needs to utilize that to impose herself early.

Trap 4 – Whats Up Eva – Trainer – Richard Rees – Owner(s) – Mrs D Benson and Mr J D Radford

25 Races / 11 Wins

The only locally trained finalist knows what it takes to win at her home track. She showed her class during March and April when claiming the Coral Brighton Belle unbeaten. The November ’19 whelp loves the south coast track with an amazing ten wins from sixteen races: a 62.50% strike rate. Her love affair with the track continued last week when winning her heat in the fastest time. Sponsors Coral make her the favourite even with a tricky draw to overcome.

Trap 5 – No Rush – Trainer – Carol Weatherall – Owner(s) – Mr C C Purdy & Mr J Purdy

6 Races / 2 Wins

The most lightly raced greyhound in the final with only six races so far in her career. Although only competing in six races so far, she has tackled three tracks including Hove with her two wins coming at Newcastle over 480 metres. In her one and only race at Towcester she was beaten by Moments Of Magic. The final is the perfect chance to turn the form book on its head.

Trap 6 – Old Fort Chicago – Trainer – Kevin Boon – Owner(s) – Mr K P Boon

11 Races / 2 Wins

In her first race at Hove, she fell at the first bend after trouble. She showed no signs of that affecting her when taking the spoils in her heat one week later. The early paced sort led early to take command of her heat to win by 2 ¾ lengths. She will be looking to do the same again and take advantage of any inside scrimmaging.
